AFI (short from A Fire Inside) has been on musical scene for about 17 years, growing from underground punk to,well-known to media, more goth-oriented band. The musical style of AFI was changing through the albums, they were always reinventing themselves, and thats one of the greatest things about them...
AFI was formed in 1991 by high school friends, who lived in Ukiah,CA.First line-up of the band was: Davey Havok on vocals,Markus Stopholese on guitar,Vick Chalker played bass, and Adam Carson was a drummer.
Vick was soon replaced by Geoff Kresge.
The band played a few local gigs and released a split 7´´ with fellow Ukiah natives Loose Change.
Members of AFI then split to attend different colleges and all assumed the band was defunct.
However, they reconveyed during a holiday break from school to play a reunion show.
Audience response was so positive that the band members decided to quit school and concentrate on music full-time.
Personal shifts ensued again.Geoff was replaced by Hunter Burgan and Stopholese departed in favor of ex-Redemption 87 guitarist Jade Puget.
There werent any lineup changes since then...
