Words are divided into different kinds called Parts of Speech, according to the work they do in a sentence.
The parts of speech are eight in number.
1. Noun I 5. Adverb
2. Pronoun I 6. Conjunction
3. Adjective I 7. Preposition
4. Verb I 8. Interjection
1. Noun: It is a naming word i.e., a word used as the name of a person, place or thing.
e.g.: Ashoka, emperor, rose, chair, table, sky, honesty, beauty, doctor etc.,
2. Pronoun: It is a word used instead of a noun.
e.g.: I, we, you, He, she, it, They.
These are also called persons (or) personal pronouns.

3. Adjective: It is a word which is used to qualify a noun or a pronoun.
e.g.: brave, beautiful, white, green, good, ten, twenty etc.
4. Verb: It is a word which is used to say something about some person, place or thing.
e.g.: Is, eat, are, write, drink, sleep, stand, read etc.
5. Adverb: It is a word used to add some thing to the meaning of a verb, an adjective or another adverb.
e.g.: briskly, fluently, very, carefully, quite, easily etc.
6. Conjunction: It is a word which is used to join words or sentences.
e.g.: and, but, or, because, so, if, either-or, neither-nor, not only-but also etc.
7. Preposition: It is a word which is used with a noun or a pronoun to show how the person or thing denoted by the noun
or pronoun stands in relation to something else.
e.g.: on, in, of, for, from, to, by, under, above, etc.
8. Interjection: It is a word which is used to explain sudden feelings of action.
e.g.: Hurrah!, Alas!, Oh!, Aah! etc.
