The younger the child the more abruptly the problem begins, often with vomiting first and then within an hour or so with diarrhoea. In between the bouts of diarrhoea and vomiting the child may appear quite well, but another bout of diarrhoea and vomiting is heralded by complaints of abdominalcramps due to the bowel going into spasms. It is not uncommon to see someblood in the motions in cases of severe diarrhoea but this does call for medical attention, as does diarrhoea and vomiting which is persistent and, therefore, carrying a risk of dehydration.
