How to make NETTLE TEA
*
The First shoots of the young Nettle make a refreshing tea-like drink.
Nettles are also a good natural source of Iron, Calcium and Folic Acid
*
1:
Start by picking your nettles, CAREFULLY!! Only use the smaller shoots as the leaves grow bitter with age. It is possible to pick them with a firm steady hand, but safer if you want to use gloves or scissors.
2:
Wash the nettle shoots individually to remove soil and insects.
3:
Place the nettle shoots into a pot and add just enough water to cover them.
In time, you will find a balance that you prefer by using more/less nettles, depending on your own taste.
4:
Boil the water until it becomes a light green (taking a spoonful will show how dark). the longer you leave them to boil, the stronger and more bitter it becomes.
5:
Remove the nettles and place to one side.
Boiled nettles can be eaten with a little salt, much like spinache.
6:
Now serve with sugar, preferably Brown and some sliced lemon.
This is th fun bit the kids will love.
When you add the sliced Lemon, the Tea changes colour from a dark green to a bright pink.
Now sit back and enjoy.
