GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI is the holy book of SIKHS- a scripture that takes its place alongside the world's greatest scriptures: the Bible, the Vedas, the Quran and the Zend Avesta. The first edition of GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI was scribed by BHAI GURDAS JI on the dictation of GURU ARJUN DEV JI. It was completed on 30th AUGUST 1604 and was formally installed on 1st SEPTEMBER 1604 in the GOLDEN TEMPLE at AMRITSAR. BHAI BUDDHA JI was appointed the first GRANTHI.
The second edition was transcribed by BHAI BANNO JI and third and last edition was prepared by BHAI MANI SINGH under the supervision of GURU GOBIND SINGH JI in 1705. Before taking his last breath in 1708, GURU GOBIND SINGH JI, ordered his followers to follow GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI as their GURU.
The GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI has 1430 Pages, which are known as ANGS. These compositions are in 31 RAAGS written by 6 Sikh Gurus, 15 Hindu and Muslim Bhagats, 11 BHATTS (Poetic Bards) and 4 Sikh Bhagats.
