At the tender age of 13 avril had already been a backing singer for local folksinger steve medd´s albums, Quinte spirit (1999) and my window to you (2002)
The first song avril ever wrote was a far cry from the rock sound of "let go" it was a simple ballad called "can´t stop thinking about you" which she later described as a ´cheesy cute´ track about a teenage crush. No shouting in it at all!
Did you know while girls where worried about make up and boys Avril was learning to skate, hanging out with boys and watching jock sports on TV. She played hockey in an otherwise all-boys team during autumn/winter seasons and baseball in the summer months. She used to play right wing and centre at ice hockey and even got a trophy for most valuable player two years in succession. At one match, she was in a scuffle with the opposition´ goalkeeper, a flare up captured on home video!
