The magical properties of herbs and spices can be accessed in several ways; in the bath, drunk as an infusion, hung outside the home or sealed in a sachet. Flowers, berries or leaves can be made into an infusion; use the bark or roots as a decoction. You need only drink or add to your bath a very small quantity of infusion or decoction to absorb a magical effect.

Garlic (Allium sativum)
Hung in the kitchen on strings or ropes, garlic bulbs keep away hostile influences, natural and supernatural. A clove of garlic placed on the sill of Hallowe'en ensures only family ghosts will return to the home on this day of the ancestors. Use in food for protection against gossip and spite. Lavender (Lavandula)
