Hi all, with the threat of heavy snow looming 4 some here in england. Due in tonite going into 2 morrow. Got me thinking of an elderly neighbour of mine. In his eighties. On his own only relative an elderly brother up north somewhere. Then thinking i havent seen lights on of a nite. Been bugging me 4 a couple of days. I am just recovering from an operation on my foot. Yet still was taken over with the thoughts of my neighbour. So bad foot or not on with my dressing gown and slippers. Went and knocked gave time 4 an answer. Nothing as i went 2 look thro letter box. Letters fell 2 the floor. My heart sank. So b4 making phone calls and pressing panic buttons. went and knocked on a door that i knew used 2 get papers 4 him. 2 my relief he is in a home. One 2 many falls. He admitted defeat said enough was enough. I told of a few weeks ago that i had called an ambalance 4 him myself. After a fall. A nasty graze 2 his hand. Very independant man. Wouldnt go 2 hospital. After checks was told blood pressure was sky high. Advised yet again 2 go 2 hospital. Still refused. Even with me doing a bit of nagging. Then advised 2 go G.P's next day. Me even knocking the next day seeing if he had. Cause he hadnt. While i waited with him 4 the ambalance. Bunaglow was tidy. But couldnt help noticing how much the place needed decorating. How long would it take 2 clean the windows 4 him. How long would it take 2 take the curtains down 2 wash them 4 him. So with all this in mind when i first knocked on that door 2day and y my heart sank. What if something had happened 2 him and he was alone. On further investigation i am not the only neighbour that watches over him. Was told he will b coming home but they want 2 make sure he can do breakfast and make a sandwich. He will have a hot dinner brought 2 him. Also 2 my delight his bunaglow is going 2 b decorated 4 him 2 come back 2. Makes me think how many of us think of the elderly. Do we or do we sit in our cosy warm homes and take it all 4 granted. Never mind about the world outside. Or whats going on next door if we havent seen them 4 a while. Whether it b an elderly person or just someone thats lonely?
