SHAKIRA and GOOD CHARLOTTE's performances at a post-American Music Awards party last week (22NOV05) were cut short when police pulled the plug on the Los Angeles bash.

JAMES SINCLAIR, who owns Californian hotspot Element, was asked by Los Angeles Police Department officers to shut his club after over a thousand people queued outside the packed venue in the hope of seeing the stars perform.

But when Sinclair refused to comply with the police officers' request, they arrested him and brought the night to an end anyway.

A spokesperson for Element tells PageSix.com, "It was a madhouse. There were literally a thousand-plus people waiting outside to get in, and the police came and asked James to shut it down. James refused."

Sinclair was later released after being issued with a caution.
