Hereford Technology School

About our school

Hereford Technology School is an 11-16 comprehensive which was awarded phase 2 technology college status in 2005. It takes students from a wide area of Grimsby, and has a fully comprehensive intake.

The school’s successes in the academic arena are beginning to receive recognition, and Hereford has just been admitted to the "Specialist School Trust’s "Most Improved Club". GCSE results were at an all time high for the fourth year in succession in 2004.

It is a very popular school and is oversubscribed this year for the fifth year in succession with a long waiting list. We may not, as yet, get the best results in the area, but we are known as a caring school as well as improving academically every year. We are a community which works together to achieve the objectives on the school mission statement: to help students become independent and creative life-long learners, to help develop students self-esteem, emotional intelligence and respect for others and to encourage students to play a full and positive part in the life of their community, preparing for life ahead.

Our popularity is also very much due to our sporting success, particularly on the athletics field and the excellent dance, drama and musical productions. There are lots of activities after school, ranging from sports to chess and, of course, homework clubs. Free burgers attract quite a few students!

We have just opened a new all-weather pitch which is put to good use both by the school and the local community.

Lots of students get the opportunity to go on trips - climbing, camping, water sports, France, visits to Lincoln, army exhibitions and careers exhibitions.

Most of the teachers know how to have a laugh as well as teach! They are caring and thoughtful.

About our area

Grimsby is a medium sized town which used to depend very much on the fishing industry for employment. Nowadays, there is a much wider variety of employment opportunities. Motorway links have much improved, and many people live outside the town and travel in for work.

The school community and catchment area is wide and varied. The population of Grimsby is roughly 110,000, and although we are geographically out on a limb, facilities for young and old are constantly being improved in the town.

Our adjoining town, Cleethorpes, is a thriving holiday centre and the beach has recently being awarded a blue flag.
