A brief intro 2 climate change... Climate change or global warming, is caused by trapped co2 (carbon dioxide) in the earths atmosphere. Did u know that although the uk holds only 1% of the world´s population, it produces 2.3% of the world´s co2 emissions! 25,000 people died in the heatwave that struck western europe in 2003.
An agreement called the ´kyoto protocol´ was drawn up to make sure rich countries cut their co2 levels by setting targets 4 each country. It became law on 16th feb 2005, however some of the biggest contributers 2 the co2 levels (the u.s and australia) refused 2 sign.
The u.k wanted 2 cut their co2 levels by 12.5% between 1990 - 2008 and reached the target in 1999. Now they aim 2 cut levels by 20% by 2010 but it seems unlikely as levels have been rising instead of falling.
