Schumi and Alonso To Face Penalties? - mark2277

Schumi and Alonso To Face Penalties?
Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso could face race bans following their accidents in Brazil.

The drivers briefing today at Imola should be a lively affair as FIA race officials talk to the drivers about some of the incidents which took place at Interlagos a fortnight ago.

It is expected that Schumacher and Alonso will come in for particular criticism and may even be penalised.

Schumacher spun out of the race while marshals and a recovery vehicle were working at the edge of the track - and double yellow flags were being waved.

´There is a report from the FIA observer,´ said FIA President Max Mosley.

´It will be examined and if necessary action will be taken. It is inconceivable under normal circumstances that a driver would go off under double waved yellow flags.

´If someone goes off there is a serious risk, apart from damage to himself, that he could kill a marshal so the responsibility is on the driver to slow right down to the point where they can safely negotiate that corner.´

Alonso will face similar scrutiny for his accident when he arrived at very high speed at the section of track where Mark Webber had crashed.
