Is it just me or does everything now seem to be overly complicated? Whatever you try to do, there's always some pointless procedure or policy in place to make it difficult. I recently tried to open a savings account with a well known bank and every time i went into the branch there was a huge queue. The first time i waited in the queue only to be told i couldn't open the account there and then despite having all the necessary documents, i had to make an appointment. They didn't have any appointments at times suitable for me as i work 2 jobs and only have the one day off a week when the banks are open. So i went back in a couple of weeks later, again a huge queue, this time i went to the reception desk there was one person in front of me but nobody on the desk. I asked if they were waiting for reception to which they replied yes, someone had noticed them and should be along shortly. Half an hour later i picked up a brochure which said you could call to open an account so, as there was still no sign of being able to talk to anyone on the desk i left with my brochure. Then i rang the number, which despite being a free number from a landline costs 20p per minute on my mobile as i dont have a landline. Went through the dozen or so automated options to select what i wanted to do and waited in the virtual queue. At least i was in the comfort of my own home. Eventually i got through to an advisor who told me quite abraisively that i was through to the wrong department. So what was the point of all the buttons and queueing. The advisor transferred me, i selected more options on my phone keypad and again got through to an advisor. I asked to open an account and was told i had to go to the branch to do this. At this point i was rather annoyed. I asked the advisor why it said in the brochure to call to open an account, he did not have an answer to this and promptly repeated that i had to go in branch. I uttered a rather snappy goodbye and hung up, ripped the brochure in half and threw it across the room. Why does everything
need to be this complicated. It's not just the banks it's everything you do. Completely pointless waste of time.
