Kurukshetra is the land between the holy rivers Saraswati and Dhrihaswadi where the Vedic civilization was born. A place of myths, legends, great battles, empires and the canvas of the epic Mahabharata, it is also the birth place of the most sacred text of the Hindus, the Bhagwad
Gita. The area where Kuru dynasty lived was called Kurukshetra. Also known as Brahmavedi or Brahmavarta (Land of Brahma) in early literature. The antiquity of Kurukshetra as a place of divine sacrifice performed by Gods is about 3000 years old. During the Gupta period, Kurukshetra developed as a seat of political power. During the 9th and 10th
centuries Kurukshetra formed a part of Pratihara Empire.
