As Muslims we ar familiar with the word Jihad, Allah SWT has mentioned the word Jihad and its derivatives in the holy Qur'an for more than 35 times. What is the definition of Jihad? To answer this question we must refer to the Qur'an to see the context of the word Jihad in every verse. Most of the verse devine Jihad as the holy war in the way of Allah. The other verses explain it as the utmost effort and struggle to gain something. If we see the history of the prophet Muhammad SAW and his companions, we know that Jihad was done because they were under attack. Jihad is the from of war to defend the life of Muslims and their belief against the unbelievers. ByJihad the prophet and his companions reached the victory and glory of this beloved religion. By Jihad too, Islam and the next generations of Muslims could survive and spread Islamic teaching to all parts of the world. Al-Qur'an orders us to do Jihad, as in chapter At-Taubat:41:"GO YE FORTH, LIGHTLY OR HEAVILY, STRIVE AND STRUGGLE WITH YOUR GOODS AND YOUR SOULS"
