New location for Pride House next year

The summer of 2008 Stockholm Pride and Stockholm’s municipal theatre will together launch a cooperation that will for the second time take part in Stockholm.
During five days in July, Stockholm’s municipal theatre will open up the theatre house for workshops and seminars arranged by Pride House. Stockholm’s municipal theatre will also play ”Ångrarna” (the regrets) and Petra Von Kant’s bitter tears and also have a premiere for a show on the 30th of July in cooperation with EuroPride.
– Stockholms municipal theatre is a part of Stockholm’s every day life and hence it is particularly prestigious that Pride House is moving in under the EuroPride 2008 events. When Stockholm Pride presents its yearly theme it will not go unnoticed by anyone in Stockholm, says Sofia Sjöö, chairwoman of Stockholm Pride.
– Stockholm’s municipal theatre shall be a concern for everyone in Stockholm and I am looking forward for the cooperation with Pride House, which is a clear standpoint from our side, says Benny Fredriksson, head of the theatre and chairman of Stockholm’s municipal theatre.
Between the 28th of July and 1st of August there will be a unique offering of debates, seminars, lectures, scene art, aesthetic culture and – last but not least – mingling, networking, friendships and love.
– This year we look around the world for new insights, alliances and common goals. We want to cross borders, made due to geographical factors, linguistic boundaries and political conflicts says Reb Kerstinsdotter, chief of the overall activities of Pride House.
– With this cooperation, Stockholm will be an example for the bordering countries where all humans equal value is not yet a fact. It is therefore a great joy and with pride that we welcome EuroPride and Stockholm’s municipal theatre’s cooperation next year, says Madeleine Sjöstedt (from the liberal party Folkpartiet), in charge of culture and sports in Stockholm.
EuroPride 2008 will be celebrated in Stockholm and at the same time Stockholm Pride will grow to include 10 days of celebrations instead of its usual 7. This year’s theme is Swedish Sin Breaking Borders, with focus on international LGBT questions. Between the 25th of July and the 3rd of August the town will be filled with the festival’s unique blend of politics and partying. Pride Park opens on the 30th of July and the Pride parade will be striving through the town on the 2nd of August.

BWO to perform the official Europride song

In the preparations for next years Europride 2008 in Stockholm we are proud to announce that BWO (Bodies Without Organs), will be recording this years official Pride Song.
BWO have performed at Stockholm Pride 2005 and 2007.
- It feels right that BWO, who have celebrated Pride with us for several years, are to perform the Europride song, says Sofia Sjöö, Chair for Stockholm Pride. When Stockholm Pride hosts Europride next year it will be great to present a group with such a big European following.
The 2007 Pride-song "I' m Gay" was performed by Cissi Ramsby along with the group 6 am and was number one in the Swedish single charts during the festival. Earlier years official Pride songs have been performed by After Dark, Alcazar and Nina&Kim, among others.

The largest Pride Parade in the Nordic countries, RuPaul and Bananarama – Saturday at Pride

Saturday and the week’s highlight is naturally the large Pride Parade, which starts at Humlegården at 2 p.m. Last year, 450 000 people went out on the streets to experience the parade. Will we set a new record this year?
This year’s parade has a real chance of being the largest one in the 10 year old history of Stockholm Pride with circa 100 registered vehicles and larger groups. The Swedish Church is participating for the first time and rumours are circulating that more ministers than ever from the government in power will participate in the parade.
In Pride Park, you can meet the authors to the book Bögjävlar or listen to Lotta Bromé reading fairytales in the children’s tent during the afternoon. At the grand parade gala a cavalcade of hits will be performed by Kristian Anttila, Frida and Laakso, and Peter Jöback, who is performing at Pride for the first time ever with his new single “Stockholm i natt”
And last but not least, two of the festival’s highlights – drag legend RuPaul and 80’s icons Bananarama.
At Zita Folkets Bio, Casper Andrea’s movie A Four Letter Word, which was screened in front of a packed auditorium at its Swedish premiere, will be shown in the evening. Now everyone in the mood of romantic gay comedy has another chance to view it.
