Guru Gobind Singh (22 December 1666 - 7 October 1708 is the tenth and last Sikh guru in a sacred lineage of ten Sikh gurus. Born in Patna, Bihar in India, he was also a warrior, poet and philosopher.
He succeeded his father Guru Tegh Bahadur as the leader of Sikhs at a young age of nine. He contributed much to Sikhism; most notable was his formalisation of the faith.
He turned a sect of believers into the full-fledged religion of Khalsa (pure) in 1699.
