2. Cell Phone Security
Mobile phone security-worth doing
Here is something worth knowing if you have a mobile phone
Have you ever wondered why phone companies don't seem interest in trying to prevent the thieft of mobile phones? If you have ever lost,or had one stolen, and if you are on a plan, you still have to pay the plan approximately up to 24 months and you have to buy another handset and enter into another contract. This is more revenue for the phone company.
There is a simple way of making lost or stolen mobiles useless to thieves and the phone companies know about it,but keep it quiet.
To check your mobile phones serial number, key in the following on your phone :
star-hash-zero-six-hash (*#06#) and a fifteen digit code will appear on the screen.
This is unique to your handset, write it down and keep it safe.Should your mobile
phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset, so even if the thief changes the simcard, your phone will be totally useless.
You probably won't get your phone back, but at lease you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either.
If everybody did this, there would be no point in stealing mobile phones.
3. Smartphones Downloading Tips
If you have a Nokia series 60 or another Symbian smartphone, will conected via GPRS and you are downloading a huge file like a video or application, just click to download and then leave the browser or mail application (don't cut the conection or close the application, use red button), go to main screen. Once the download is over, it just pops out on your screen. You just need to save them.
4. Block SMS Receiving
If you want to block SMS reception (if you are spammed by someone) just type this code on the main screen : *35*xxxx*16#
xxxx is your Call Baring code (default is 0000)
To remove this barring type : #35*xxxx#
5. Free Pop3 E-mail
Free mymail.ro

Try the same settings for outgoing server.
Mailbox type : POP3
Username : username@mymail.ro
password : your password
If you can't download large files (java games, ringtones etc..) via wap and you don't have a PC-phone connection (USB, Bluetooth, Infrared) you can send&receive items via pop3 mailbox. (if your phone has a mailbox application)
Attach the files to
your e-mail and send them to any e-mail address. You can also receive&send photos from - to your PC. Set the same e-mail account on an e-mail application like Outlook Express and start sending&receiving files.

Next thing to do is to register a domain name and buy a hosting to serve your wapsite.
Good Luck..!
7. Bluejacking
Now, using a phone with Bluetooth, you can create a phonebook contact and write a message, e.g 'Helo, you've been bluejacked', in the 'Name' filed. Then you can search for other phones with Bluetooth and send that phonebook contact to them, on their phone, a message will popup saying 'Helo, you've been bluejacked' has just been received by Bluetooth or something along those lines. For most 'victims' they will have no idea as to how the message appeared on their phone.
So, personalised messages like 'I like your pink top' and the started expressions the fun really starts.
E x p l a n a t i o n
01. Get your hands on a Bluetooth-enabled device mobile phone.
02. Create a new phonebook contact, with the message you want to send to someone in the 'Name' filed, e.g, 'I like the look of your cappuccino'.
03. Go to a busy place (Busy Shopping Centre, High Street, On a train/tube/bus, Cinema, Cafe/restaurant/pub, Mobile Phone Shop, Electronics Shop, etc..)
04. Select the contact you made earlier, and choose 'Send Via Bluetooth'.
05. Your phone will search for other Bluetooth devices roughly 10 metres arround you. It will either list available devices, or say none could be found. If it doesn't find any, choose another Spot.
06. Your phone will list the names of devices in range sometimes the name will give you a clue
to the model of phone.
07. Select one of these devices listed for your phonebook contact to be sent to
08. If all goes well, your contact will be sent to the selected device
09. If you can, try to casually look arround you and see if you spot anybody with a Bluetooth enabled phone/device nearby looking truly puzzled. It would help greatly if you know which phones have Bluetooth and which don't. This way, you can eliminate anybody who is looking at, say, their Nokia 3310 which doesn't have Bluetooth.
10. The rest, as they say, is up to you.
In case it all goes wrong ;
>if you manage to identify your victim and they are looking angry rather than puzzled & confused, jellyellie's advise is to run, not walk, in the opposite direction.!
The Reveal ;
>'The Reveal' is what it all comes down to in the end. It is what your messages have been
building up to, and it's certainly the climax of your exchange.
If you know who your victim is, when it's time for you to leave the area send them a contact saying something like "Listen out for 'parrot'". Then, as you walk past them, say (loudly) to yourself "I hope my parrot will be OK!."
That will definitely get their attention.
F A Q
When you bluejack, does the victims phone/PDA just show that there is an incoming contact or does it get accepted by the phone or PDA and entered into the address book? On most models the phone will blep the same tone as when a text message is received, and it will show a message similar to "name of contact has just been received by Bluetooth." if the user then accept it, the contact will appear in their phonebook. From here the user can see what it written in the other fields too.
I want to know how to send a business card, if at possible, from a SE T610 ;
A simple answer would be that a business card is the same as a phonebook contact, so yes, you can send them from a T610 because it has Bluetooth. You can follow the same guide that i have written for sending contacts.
Whenever I try and bluejack someone it asks for a passkey
What am I doing wrong?
Ah. You are trying to pair your phone to another Bluetoot device. This is not what you want to do and won't work. Instead of going into 'My devices' in your Bluetooth menu, select the contact/item you want to send and choose 'Send' then 'Bluetooth'.
Is bluejacking free?
Yes. It's free because it uses technology on your phone not your simcard. Since your network only has control on network-provided features, and Bluetooth is a feature on your phone not provided by your network, it is free.
Will my phone number be sent I send when I bluejack somebody?
No. As I said earlier, Bluetooth is a feature on your phone and has nothing to do with your phone number.
How do I stop people from bluejacking me?
You can either go into your Bluetooth menu and switch it off, or if you need Bluetooth on for on reason or
another you can simply set your phone to 'Undiscoverable' in your Bluetooth menu. This means that other Bluetooth devices won't find you when they search for Bluetooth devices.
* N O K I A *
1. Easy Scrolling
On most of new Nokia phones with Symbian software you can scrool through the bottom and the top of the web/wap page by pressing '*' and '#' keys.
2. Using Alarm when Phone is off
Did you know that you can set alarm on your phone even when it is turned off?
This is quite usefull feature for people who usually turn their phones off while sleeping. For you who always turn your phones on, this feature might not be interesting. Actually it is not only a feature of S60 phones;
some other non S60 phones from Nokia has this feature too.
How do we setup this feature? There is nothing special. Simply set alarm in the Clock application as usual. Then switch off your phone and go to bed. Next morning, when the alarm is ringing, you can stop it and the phone will be switched on automatically. Alternatively,
you can also select snoone it you still want to sleep.
3. Shortcut to Select Multiple item in List box
You know the list box in many S60 applications, such as Contacts, Messaging, Notes, Gallery and many more. How do usually select multiple items? The common way to do that is by selecting Options > Mark/unmark > Mark menu. If you want to select 10 items, you have to do it 10 times but there is a faster way..!
Here is the trick :
Firstly, highlight the first item you want to select. Press Edit key (pencil-abc key) on your phone. While still pressing Edit key, press Down key to select the next item. Now you have two items selected. If you press Down key again (while still pressing Edit key), the next item will be selected. It is faster than selecting Options menu, isn't it? You can also press Up key to select one or more
previous items.
That's how we select continuous items. How can we select random items?
Firstly, highlight the first item. Then go to the next other item. Press Edit key and OK key at the same time. If you don't know what OK key is, it is the center key of your joystick. Now you have two items selected.
You can go to the next other item and once again press Edit key and OK key at the same time. Now you have three items selected.
4. Displaying your Name on Idle Screen
Open Profiles application then create a new profile with your name as the Profile Name. Select Options > Create New (some phones may have different menu item). After that, just activate your profile to display your name in the Idle screen. The name is not only displayed on the Idle screen, but on the screen saver too.
5. Can't Install Applications because of a Security Warning
There are several S60 3rd phones already on the market now, for instance Nokia 325, N71, N80 and N91. There will be some more phones in the near future. One of the new features of S60 3rd Edition is mandatory signing, it means S60 3rd applications, themes have to be signed other wise they cannot be installed S60 3rd phones ?
What is Signing?
Basically application signing is a way of adding a tamper-proof digital signature to an application so that no one can modify the application. It will prevent the users from installing malicious or hacked applications.
The goal of signing process is good, but this has created some headaches to some people. One of the problems is installing self-signed application. What is self-signed application? It's an application that is signed with developer's certificate and key.
Some applications use this kind of signing, for example SExplorer.
There is an option in S60 3rd phones to enable or disable self-signed applications. If you disable it, you will not be able to install self-signed applications. Some people choose to do it so that they can only install applications from 'trusted' sources. With so many Trojan Viruses these days, it is sometimes wiser to disable this option. If you enabled it, you will be able to install any applications, including self-signed applications (but still you cannot install unsigned applications). Some people prefer to enable this option because it offers have greater flexibility. When you try to install self-signed application, you will get warning message, but you can still continue the instalation.
6. Deleting Item with C key
How do usually delete an item in S60 applications, example, in Contacts or Messaging applications? Many people select Options > Delete to delete an item but you can also press C key to delete an item. It's faster because you only need one click instead of several clicks.
Just remember to press C key when you want to delete something in S60 applications. Most S60 applications support this feature, including Contacts, Messaging, Notes, Calendar, Gallery, File Manager and many more.
7. Lost Wallet Password?
Type *#7370925538# on the main screen. This resets wallet code but be warned you lose all stuff in the wallet.
8. Wildcard In Phonebook
When typing name in phonebook you can use * or ? instead of one character! mar*ymarry..,mar?ymarry..,*arrymarry...etc..
9. Clear Form Inputs Easily
To easily clear form inputs on default browser of any S60 phone..(to save time pressing 'C' key each time to erase letter by letter, simply open your wallet application and set a dot like "." as NOTES. Now each time you face this situation of clearing input field with lots of word in it, just press options, open wallet, then fill in the Note with da dot. Voila...All, clear.!
10. Built-in simple Task Manager
Press and hold the Menu button located on the left side of the display. You will be presented with a list of all applications currently running in your System. Now you can quickly switch to any of the running tasks by selecting it and pressing joystick. You can also close task by selecting it and pressing 'C'. If you need more advanced task management, instal Task Manager.

http://nfader.z-host.ru/
13. Easy Profile Switching on S60
How do you usually switch between General and Silent profile? These two profiles are probably the most used ones. So it's likely that you have to switch between them quite often.
There are several ways you can switch between General and Silent mode.
The easiest way is, of course, to press Power button and select the profile using and key then press OK.
Another way is just to use Power button only. Firstly, press Power button once to bring up the list of profiles. Secondly, press Power button again (probably several times) to select the profile you want to activate. Then press and hold Power button for about 1 second to activate it.
S60 3.0 phone's introduce new features that allow us to switch General and Silent faster. Go to the idle screen (Idle screen is the screen where you see your wallpaper). Then press and hold # key for about 1 second. If your current profile is General, it will be switched to Silent ; and vice versa.
14. Subfolders in Menu
If you have already tried it, you know it's not possible to have a folder inside another in phone's menu, because there's
no 'Move to folder' option if you highlight a folder. But with Alberto Bilheteria and all his action, the history is different...
1> Open your phone's menu and highlight the folder you want to put inside another folder.
2> Press Options - Move and press 1 to move the folder to the first position in menu.
3> Open some file explorer (if you don't have one, download from the link below), and go to !:\system\apps\, where ! is the drive you have some application installed : C for the phone or E for the card.
4> Highlight a folder, and rename it to anything else than its original name.
5> Immediatelyperform this sequence as fast as you can : press Menu key, highlight any application or game (not a folder) and press Options.
6> Don't do anything else, but wait until Menu is refreshed. After that, you'll see the cursor appears over the
folder you want to move.
7> Select Move to folder, choose the destination folder and the folder will be where you moved it.
N o t e s :
- The application or game you must highlight at step 5 should be in the same folder than the folder you want to move.
- Steps 3 and 4 explain a fast and simple action that causes Menu to be refreshed. If you like it better, both steps can be replaced with install a application that's already installed or remove some application using phone's App Manager, Anyway, remember the step 5 has to be done immediatelly after the previous action.
- Before trying this trick, make sure that you have at least one item that's not a folder in your phone's menu. It may be a game or a application.
- After renaming a application folder located at !:\system\apps\, don't forget to rename it back to it's default
name. Other wise, it won't appear at phone's menu and you can't use it.
15. Where are the files that you send to your phone via IR or BT ?
They are in mail folders :
If you store your messages in phone memory, they are in C:\system\mail\...
Files inbox are in folders like *_F
For example :
C:\system\mail\00001001_S\0\00100c60_F\ (file) or C:\system\mail\00001001_S\1\00100bc1_F\ (file) or C:\system\mail\00001001_S\2\00100bc2_F\ (file) you can use FExplorer to find the files.
16. Send Command Fails
With some new firmware, some users have reported that the 'send command' (thru Bluetooth, Infrared,..) fails ; it's due to a 'copyright protection' introduced in the new OS. This happens only with some kind of files (eg ; SIS, .jar), in such case, simply rename the file (eg ; with .SIS_) before trying to send them. You can use FExplorer to find and rename the files.
17. Retrieve lost MMC password
1. Open file explorer, (SeleQ, FExplorer, AppMan, what ever).
2. Search for MMCSTORE
3. When you find it, send it to your PC
4. On PC, open the file with Notepad, or any word processor.
5. There goes your password
18. Safe Mode
We sometimes hear from users of series 60 handset users stating that they've filled up their memory, and the memory is so full that they can't get in to delete any files.
We've not had any experience of this, but the best thing to try is to restart the phone (by taking the battery out) when it 'hangs' and then starting the phone in 'safe mode'. This causes the phone to load as few apps as possible at start up.
To do this, hold down the ABC key, and while holding it down, start up the phone. Hopefully you will then be able to transfer files from your C drive to your MMC to free up the memory.
As a very last resort, you can format the phone and start again. This will remove all data, and you'll have to restore your phone's information from a backup which you may have made on your MMC or via PC Suite.
If you still can't get into the phone, the final option appear to to be to take the phone to the nearest Nokia Shop (or your retailer) who should be able to re-flash the phone to factory settings.
19. Increase Your MMC Storage Space
Your files in MMC are stored in multiple (disk) blocks. So if you format using 16K block, the space used will be 16K eventhough your file is just 1K.
If you buy MMC, it is usually preformatted with 16K block, therefore, a lot of space is wasted as most installed program files are urually less than 2K.
You will need a card reader to do this ;
1.> Connect card reader and copy all your files in the MMC to computer disk. (Make sure you set the show all/hidden/os files to 'on')
2.> Do a format of the MMC using command line 'format' and use the/A=size option.
Alternative, you can use the Disk Management in Administrative Tools to format. Make sure you select FAT. for 256Mb MMC, smallest block you can use is 4K, 128Mb is 2K, 64Mb is 1K and 32Mb is 512byte. (Note ; you cannot use the phones 'format MMC' to do this as the format just clear the allocation table and does not change the block size)
3.> Copy back all files to MMC
Now you will find that you will have more Space. 256Mb MMC got back 30+ Mbs. Do this at your own risk..! Be sure to close memory card cap after you inserted it to your phone (6630)
20. Full Phone Formatting
If you encounter a situation like below on your Symbian phone,
1.> Blank screen phone unable to reboot.
2.> Phone only able to boot-up to 'Nokia' word screen.
3.> Install some program but not able to uninstall it after that.
4.> Error messages such as 'Child Installer' keeps poppings-up.
Do a full phone formattings on your phone as steps below ;
1.> Make sure you have at least 3/4 charge of battery power left.
2.> Back up your contacts list and personal files to MMC memory card, (see Back up Phone Setting)
3.> Switch-off your phone
4.> Press and hold these 3 keys ; Green dial key, * key and no. 3 key and then press the power on/off to switch on the phone.
Remember, do not let go all of the keys, hold until you see a formatting word screen show..!
5.> After a few minutes
when the full phone formattng completed, your phone will be back to original system and factory settings.
All applications installed will be lost unless you've made a back up on your MMC. You can restore the back up to the C drive again.
21. Error of Application Close Main..!
During Start Up.
You can pix the application close main error...
1.> Open your file manager / explorer (if you don't have one go to link below)
2.> Go to C:\system\bootdata and delete FirstBoot.dat
3.> Turn off phone and take out your MMC card.
4.> Turn on phone and put in current time / date
5.> Wait for it to boot up then turn off phone again
6.> Put MMC back in and turn on phone
You can also try deleting the monlog-txt file in C:\nokia to avoid application close errors.
22. Back up Phone Settings
If you ever come to a point when you need to hard format your phone or maybe upgrade to a new firmware, you would like to save the current settings of your phone. So this is what you should do ; How to back up phone settings to MMC.
Menu & gt ; Extras > memory > options > Back up phone memory.
Once the formatting or upgrading is done, you can then restore back the settings by doing ;
Restoring settings after phone format.
Menu > Extras > memory > options > Restore from card.
23. Better Than Back up (S60)
If you have a problem and thinking of backing up your phone memory before formatting then it's of no use, as if after formatting you restore the back up and the corrupted files before formatting will comeback again. So here is a better way.
1.> Back up Contacts - Go in C:\system\data\contacts.cdb and save that file in your MMC or PC. Alternatively you can use the Back up contacts program, download from the link below.
2.> Bookmark - Go in C:\system\data\bookmark.db and save that file...
3.> Notepad - Go in C:\system\data\notepad.db and save that file
4.> Messages - If you have them on your phone memory then just save the whole of mail folder.
After formatting paste the backups at the same place as before.
24. Changing Icons in 6670/7610/6630 etc..

Heres how ;
1.> Go to themes and choose the theme of which the icons you want to use, press options > edit and change one of the settings, for example, the colour palette.
2.> Using a program like FExplorer, go to C:\system\Skins\theme_used_in_step1 and take the ini file.
3.> Put it into C:\system\Skins\the_theme_which_you_wana_use
4.> If there is any ini file inside, delete it, then rename the ini file to the name of the folder.
5.> You are done, exit the FExplorer and apply your theme.
25. Cant Delete Files in your Inbox ? (S60)
When you cant delete a file which is in your inbox the normal way, here is what you can do ;
1.> Install FExplorer. (A file explorer program, link below the page)
2.> Launch it and go to the path/folder of your messages inbox. If it's on the C drive, it would be C:\system\Mail\00001001_S and the same if its on the E
3.> You will notice there are more folders, 0 to 9 and a to f. Just go look into all those folders and should be able to find the file that you wanna delete
4.> Once found click on Options > File > Delete
5.> Exit FExplorer and go to your Inbox to delete the file again.
26. T9 Symbols
