38.interested in fisting
QUESTION:
Hello Dr. Love,

I just turned 18 and am interested in fisting. After fisting does ur anal hole close or stay stretched 4ever.pls help.
ANSWER:In terms of the sexual play "scale of risk", fisting or using large thick sex toys is considered by a majority of the medical professionals as a high risk behaviour. In order to accommodate your partner's hand or arm, your sphincter muscle must stretch to the max. While doing so, it can lead to many potential complications...soem of which I will list below:

1) One of the complications most often associated with Fisting is BLEEDING. This is due to either rough insertion of the fingers and arm by your partner or due to irritation/tearing of pre-existing hemmoroids (piles) in and around yoru sphincter. As we all know by now, the lower digestive tract is teeming with bacterial colonies which (along with fecal matter from your bowel movements)can then gain access to and infect these open wounds causing a fissure ( a deeper tear in the delicate lining of the anus ). This could be extremely dangerous requiring surgery to stitch it close- and fatal if ignored.

2) Fists are not as pliable as a penis and can be much longer and thicker. They can reach the bend in your colon (approximately 8 inches up) and may not negotiate it. If they don't make the turn, they can PERFORATE ( tear open) your colon wall. This would be considered a very dangerous ( life or death) sort of emergency and need immediate attention.

3) Rough and/or regular fisting may also cause injury to the sphincter muscle. When this happens, scar tissue forms on the injured site. This scar tissue is not as flexible as the original muscle and does not contract well - leading to INCONTINENCE (the inability to control bowel movements and passage of gas) as the years go by. This can be quite embarrassing as you can imagine.

4) Fisting is also a high risk behaviour in terms of the possibility of contracting SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DESEASE. It is possible to contract desease such as Gonorrhea, Anal Herpes and HIV by fisting if a partner is infected and the other partner has a open cut or sore on his fingers and/or arm.

If after reading all this, you are still curious & brave enough to try either fisting or using large, thick sex toys for sexual pleasure there are several things you MUST do:

1) BE VERY VERY GENTLE and GO SLOW

2) USE A TONNE OF WATER-SOLUBLE LUBE. Using oil-based lubes renders the condoms and latex gloves useless because the oils react with the latex and perforate it with tiny invisible holes/tears - allowing passage of STDs & fecal matter between the anus and fist and leading to infection. Additionally, oil-based lubes can block anal glands and irritate your skin.

3) Infections can pass between partners from fists or shared toys. As much as possible, try to keep your toys to yourself. If you must share, ensure the toys are sterilized and cover the toys with condoms, and always wear a latex glove for fisting. Simply washing the toys with soap will not sterilize them. You would be shocked if you knew just how many bacteria are crawling all over that bar of soap you use to wash up with. Remember, your favorite dildo won't get STD, you will.

4) If using sex toys, make sure you use ones with a WIDER END or flat ring at the bottom to keep it from being sucked into your anus. If it does get lost, your sphincter muscles will close. Don't try to reach in and grab it, or flush it out with enemas. This will only push it up higher. Squat down and try to move your bowels. Most of the time this will work and the toy will pass on its own. If it doesn't come out, get to an emergency room. A toy left in can perforate your colon. Stay away from toys with sharp, rough or jagged edges and, for goodness sakes, take off your rings before fisting someone! Smooth toys with a tapered end that gradually widens are ideal, because they gradually stretch your sphincters as you push them in. If you have trouble getting a toy in, start with a smaller size and work up to the size you want.

5) Some recreational drugs are known to relax the sphincter muscle. However, this is highly risky behaviour cuz even though the drugs help relax the ring, they also make the person carefree and more prone to unsafe sexual practices which may lead to STDs such as HIV or damage to their bowels. I, personally, nor the group espouse the usage of any kind of drug which may pose a risk to the user.

6) Some people who are contemplating fisting prefer to give themselves enemas prior to the act to clean out any fecal matter from the anal passage and colon - hence reducing chances of infection. However, the natural environment of the inner passageways of the lower bowels may get disturbed with constant enemas and hence increase chances of secondary by making the environment more friendly for harmful bacterias to grow.

With all that said, we are all adults and most of us know how much we can endure in terms of risks and pain.....so the final decision is yours - as will be the outcome of that decision.

Regards

Dr. Love
