How does NOS work?

NOS nitrous oxide is a popular performance addition to street cars
Nitrous oxide is composed of 2 parts nitrogen and 1 part oxygen. When injected into the engine, the compound breaks down and releases the extra oxygen. It is not this extra oxygen alone that produces more power, but the ability of this oxygen to burn more fuel.
Nitrous oxide can increase HP by up to 400. It is relatively cheap when compared to other forms of performance parts. Installation of a 150 HP dry system takes about 3 hours.
There are 3 main types of NOS systems. The dry shot system injects Nitrous only into the incoming air charge. Wet shot systems injects Nitrous and fuel into the incoming air. Direct port systems inject Nitrous and fuel directly into each chamber.
NOS does increase top speed, but by a small percentage. The more horsepower gained from the system, the larger the percentage gain. The addition of horsepower by the "spray" allows the car to reach its top speed more quickly and then surpasses by a bit.
