Turbochargers

Turbochargers compress the incoming air to get it at a higher pressure. If the air is at a higher pressure, more air molecules can fit into the chamber on the intake stroke. More air means more fuel to burn which translates into more power.
The laws of physics tell us that when gases are compressed their temperature increases. The intercooler acts as a radiator for the compressed air. When cool, the air contracts and even more air molecules can now fit in the combustion chamber.
Although quite expensive, turbos offer power gains of up to 5 times the engines natural power. Turbos have been seen selling for prices as high as $4000USD.
